STARLAKE LED gas station lights are designed for fuel station canopies, forecourts, service areas, and commercial retrofit projects where uniform illumination, reliable operation, and long operating hours affect fixture selection.
The GS05 LED Gas Station Canopy Light is available in 100W, 120W, 150W, 200W, and 240W, with direct ceiling and 3/4-inch NPT pendant mounting options for different canopy structures.
Fixture selection should follow canopy geometry, delivered illuminance, distribution, uniformity, glare, mounting, and electrical requirements rather than wattage alone.
100W–240W Options | Ceiling & 3/4″ NPT Mounting | OEM/ODM Support | North American Supply Support
GS05 LED Gas Station Canopy Light Options
The GS05 platform covers five wattage levels across two housing sizes.
| Power | Fixture Dimensions | Selection Consideration |
|---|---|---|
| 100W | Approx. 16.54 × 16.54 × 2.64 in. | Lower-output canopy requirements |
| 120W | Approx. 16.54 × 16.54 × 2.64 in. | Moderate commercial canopy applications |
| 150W | Approx. 16.54 × 16.54 × 2.64 in. | Higher output within the compact housing platform |
| 200W | Approx. 21.26 × 21.26 × 2.64 in. | Larger or higher-output canopy projects |
| 240W | Approx. 21.26 × 21.26 × 2.64 in. | Highest-output GS05 configuration |
These are product output options, not fixed mounting-height recommendations.
Final selection should consider canopy dimensions, mounting height, fixture spacing, required illuminance, optical distribution, fixture quantity, and existing lighting conditions.
Delivered Light Matters More Than Lumens Alone
Gas station canopy lighting must deliver useful illumination across fuel dispensers, pump islands, vehicle lanes, payment areas, and surrounding circulation zones.
A high-output fixture can still produce excessive intensity directly beneath the luminaire while leaving weaker illumination between fixtures or near canopy edges.
A useful relationship is:
Fixture Output + Distribution + Canopy Geometry + Spacing → Delivered Illuminance & Uniformity
The layout should evaluate:
Ground-level illuminance
Coverage around fuel dispensers
Mounting height
Fixture spacing
Uniformity across pump islands
Visibility around vehicles and equipment
Driver-facing glare
For projects with specified light levels or uniformity requirements, use fixture-specific photometric data to validate the proposed layout.
Uniform Illumination With Controlled Glare
A high illuminance reading beneath one fixture does not establish adequate performance across the forecourt.
Poor spacing or distribution can create alternating bright and dark areas around pump islands and vehicle lanes. Increasing wattage may intensify the bright zone without correcting those transitions.
Glare also requires particular attention because drivers may enter a brightly illuminated forecourt from a substantially darker roadway.
During that transition, excessive source brightness within normal viewing directions can make it harder to identify pedestrians, curbs, dispensers, equipment, and other vehicles.
The lighting system should therefore coordinate output, optics, fixture position, and spacing to provide useful coverage without relying on isolated high-intensity areas.
How to Select an LED Gas Station Light
Use the actual canopy conditions rather than starting from a wattage-equivalence chart.
Site → Performance Target → Layout → Output → Electrical Configuration → Verification
1. Site
Document canopy length, width, mounting height, pump-island positions, proposed fixture locations, and relevant structural conditions.
2. Performance Target
Define the required illumination for fueling, payment, vehicle circulation, and other relevant task areas according to the project specification and applicable requirements.
3. Layout
Evaluate fixture position, spacing, and optical distribution against the canopy and pump-island geometry.
4. Output
Compare the available 100W–240W GS05 configurations after the required lighting result is established.
Higher wattage should be selected only when the layout requires additional output.
5. Electrical Configuration
Confirm supply voltage, wiring, dimming requirements, mounting method, and installation clearance.
6. Verification
Where performance criteria are defined, verify the proposed layout with fixture-specific photometric data or an IES-based lighting calculation before final specification.
Color Quality and Nighttime Visibility
CCT and CRI affect how vehicles, pedestrians, equipment, pump interfaces, safety information, and surrounding surfaces appear at night.
Color quality should be evaluated as part of the complete lighting system. Higher CRI cannot compensate for poor uniformity or insufficient illumination, and a higher CCT is not automatically more suitable for every station.
Required CCT and CRI should therefore be confirmed for the selected GS05 configuration and project specification.
Commercial Canopy Reliability Starts With the Environment
Gas station canopy fixtures can operate for long hours while encountering moisture, dust, temperature variation, cleaning activity, and different exposure levels around canopy edges.
Evaluate:
Ingress protection
Ambient operating temperature
Housing and sealing
Moisture and dust exposure
Corrosion conditions
Driver protection
Thermal management
Mounting security
Maintenance access
Exposure can vary within the same canopy. A fixture near an open perimeter may experience different conditions from one installed farther inside the structure.
Environmental ratings should therefore be confirmed for the selected GS05 configuration and actual installation location.
Thermal Management Affects Long-Term Performance
High-output LEDs generate heat that must move from the semiconductor into the surrounding environment.
The thermal path is:
LED Junction → PCB / Thermal Interface → Luminaire Housing → Surrounding Air
Higher thermal resistance can increase junction temperature and affect lumen maintenance or component reliability.
This is relevant to fuel stations because fixtures may operate throughout much of the night or continuously at some sites.
STARLAKE’s engineering capabilities include thermal management, optics, power-supply design, mechanical development, controls, and LED integration, allowing these variables to be considered together during product development and customization.
A Better Approach to HID Canopy Retrofits
Metal halide and high-pressure sodium fixtures remain common retrofit targets in commercial canopy lighting.
LED replacement should not assume:
Existing HID Wattage = New LED Wattage
Instead, document:
Existing fixture and lamp type
Existing system wattage and ballast consumption
Fixture condition and age
Mounting height
Fixture spacing
Current or required light levels
Existing distribution
Supply voltage
Then follow:
Existing System → Required Performance → Canopy Geometry → Photometric Evaluation → LED Configuration
This approach evaluates the replacement according to installed lighting performance rather than nominal wattage equivalence.
Ceiling and 3/4-Inch NPT Pendant Mounting
GS05 supports two documented installation approaches.
Ceiling Mounting
GS05 can mount directly to the canopy structure.
The documented installation procedure includes fixing hardware and a safety rope as an additional retention point above active vehicle and pedestrian areas.
The mounting surface, fixing points, structural suitability, and applicable installation requirements should be verified before installation.
3/4-Inch NPT Pendant Mounting
GS05 also supports 3/4-inch NPT pendant installation.
The electrical connection passes through the stem before the fixture is secured, providing an alternative for canopy structures or retrofit conditions requiring suspended mounting.
Final installation should be coordinated with the actual canopy structure, clearance, and electrical layout.
Dimming and Lighting Control Integration
The supplied GS05 wiring documentation identifies:
Black — Line
White — Neutral
Green — Earth
Purple — Dim+
Pink — Dim-
Dedicated dimming conductors provide a basis for integration with a compatible control configuration.
The exact input voltage, driver, dimming protocol, and control compatibility should be confirmed before ordering.
Where a project requires scheduled dimming, daylight-responsive operation, or integration with another facility-control strategy, define those requirements during quotation so the electrical configuration can be reviewed before production.
Commercial Applications
GS05 LED gas station canopy lights are intended primarily for covered commercial applications including:
Gas station canopies
Fuel station forecourts
Convenience-store fueling areas
Covered vehicle service areas
Commercial service stations
Covered loading areas
Covered vehicle circulation zones
Suitability should follow actual mounting height, environmental exposure, visual tasks, canopy geometry, electrical conditions, and operating schedule rather than application name alone.
