STARLAKE provides LED bollard lights for pathways, walkways, parks, building surroundings, commercial landscapes, campuses, plazas, and other pedestrian-oriented outdoor spaces.
Unlike higher-mounted area or post-top lighting, bollards operate close to both the walking surface and normal pedestrian viewing height. This makes fixture placement, optical distribution, spacing, and visual comfort central to bollard lighting design.
STARLAKE’s bollard platform combines interchangeable top-head designs with different optical characteristics, selectable configurations, dimming, and control options for commercial landscape and pathway projects.
For lighting brands, distributors, contractors, landscape projects, and commercial buyers, STARLAKE also provides OEM/ODM engineering, manufacturing, quality control, and North American warehouse support.
How to Choose the Right LED Bollard Light
Begin with the path, pedestrian area, or landscape zone that needs illumination.
A narrow walkway, plaza edge, building perimeter, landscaped path, and open pedestrian area can require different distributions and spacing even when they use the same bollard family.
A practical selection sequence is:
Path Geometry → Bollard Placement → Optics → Coverage → Spacing → Final Configuration
Confirm:
Path width, length, and geometry
Available bollard positions
Target area for useful illumination
Required continuity between fixtures
Pedestrian viewing positions
Illuminamento richiesto
Controls and operating schedule
Electrical and environmental requirements
Output, optics, spacing, CCT, controls, and electrical configuration can then be selected around the actual site rather than fixture wattage alone.
Choose Bollard Optics Around the Path
A bollard’s optical structure determines how emitted light reaches the path and surrounding ground.
A useful relationship is:
Optical Structure → Light Distribution → Target-Area Coverage
The current STARLAKE bollard platform provides multiple interchangeable top-head configurations. Product photometric diagrams indicate different distribution characteristics between configurations.
This matters because similar electrical output does not necessarily produce the same installed lighting result.
A narrow pedestrian route may require light to extend along the path, while another location may prioritize illumination closer to the fixture or across a broader landscape zone.
Select the optical configuration according to:
Path / Area Geometry + Required Coverage + Photometric Distribution
rather than appearance, wattage, or total lumens alone.
Bollard Placement, Coverage & Spacing
There is no universal spacing distance for bollard lighting.
Spacing depends on:
Bollard Position + Optical Distribution + Output + Path Width → Coverage & Spacing
Important variables include:
Path width and geometry
Fixture position relative to the path
Optical distribution
Fixture output
Required ground illuminance
Desired continuity between adjacent fixtures
Greater spacing can reduce fixture quantity but may create disconnected illuminated zones. Closer spacing increases overlap but can also add unnecessary light if the optics and output already provide sufficient coverage.
For projects with defined lighting criteria, evaluate fixture-specific photometric data against the site plan before determining final quantity and spacing.
Visual Comfort at Pedestrian Scale
Visual comfort is particularly important with bollards because the light source operates much closer to normal pedestrian sightlines than high-mounted outdoor luminaires.
A useful relationship is:
Optical Structure + Fixture Placement + Viewing Position → Visual Comfort
A bollard can provide adequate ground illumination while still presenting excessive source brightness from common approach directions.
Optics and placement should therefore deliver useful light to the walking or landscape surface while limiting unnecessary source visibility and light outside the intended area.
Different top-head structures can influence both the lighting distribution and how pedestrians perceive the fixture.
Where a project specifies glare, cutoff, spill-light, or uplight criteria, verify those requirements using photometric data for the actual configuration rather than housing appearance alone.
Controls & Electrical Configuration
Outdoor pedestrian areas may not require identical output throughout the entire night.
The current STARLAKE bollard platform supports 0–10V dimming and configurable photosensor functionality. Product specifications also identify selectable wattage and CCT configurations and optional electrical accessories such as emergency drivers and surge-protection solutions.
A practical control sequence is:
Operating Schedule → Required Output → Control Strategy → Electrical Configuration
Photosensor functionality can coordinate operation with ambient daylight conditions, while dimming can support compatible site-control strategies.
The platform provides 3000K, 4000K, and 5000K CCT configurations for coordination with landscapes, architecture, and adjacent outdoor lighting.
Dimming, photosensor, emergency, surge protection, voltage, and other electrical options should be confirmed for the specific configuration.
Outdoor Construction & Installation
Bollards are installed close to the ground, where environmental exposure and installation details require particular attention.
The STARLAKE bollard platform uses an integrated die-cast aluminum housing, UV-resistant powder coating, and clear polycarbonate lens and is specified for wet-location use.
Project planning should consider:
Site Environment → Fixture Construction → Base / Mounting Conditions → Electrical Connection
Evaluate:
Installation surface
Bollard base and anchoring conditions
Electrical routing
Surrounding landscape
Drainage conditions
Maintenance access
Environmental exposure
Ground-level placement makes drainage and base conditions especially relevant because standing water, irrigation, soil conditions, or unsuitable installation details can create exposure not described by the luminaire specification alone.
Coastal, highly corrosive, extreme-temperature, or similarly demanding environments should be evaluated separately before confirming the product configuration.
Where Are LED Bollard Lights Used?
LED bollards are useful where illumination needs to operate at pedestrian scale while integrating with surrounding architecture and landscape.
| Applicazione | Main Project Considerations |
|---|---|
| Pathways & Walkways | Distribution, spacing, path width, visual comfort |
| Parks & Gardens | Landscape integration, pedestrian visibility, CCT |
| Commercial Landscapes | Optical coverage, appearance, controls |
| Building Surroundings | Placement, perimeter coverage, architectural coordination |
| Campuses | Route continuity, fixture consistency, operating schedules |
| Plazas & Pedestrian Areas | Coverage, circulation patterns, visual comfort |
One configuration does not necessarily fit every location within a project.
A narrow walkway may require a different optical or spacing strategy from an open landscaped area. Larger sites should therefore be evaluated as lighting systems rather than selecting bollards solely by fixture appearance.
Interchangeable Top Heads for Different Project Requirements
One of the key features of the current STARLAKE bollard platform is its interchangeable top-head design.
This adds another project variable beyond wattage and CCT:
Top-Head Design → Optical Character → Lighting Result + Fixture Appearance
Different head structures can change how light leaves the fixture while allowing projects to maintain a related bollard family across different landscape zones.
This can be useful where one development requires consistent fixture styling but different lighting behavior around pathways, open areas, and architectural surroundings.
Head selection should still follow the photometric characteristics of the actual configuration. A visual difference between top heads should not automatically be interpreted as a particular optical distribution unless supported by product data.
OEM & ODM LED Bollard Light Solutions
STARLAKE provides OEM and ODM support for lighting brands, distributors, importers, contractors, and project suppliers requiring standard or customized bollard-lighting programs.
Depending on project requirements, customization may involve top-head configuration, optics, power, CCT, voltage, controls, housing finish, electrical accessories, branding, labeling, and packaging.
| Personalizzazione | Engineering / Commercial Consideration |
|---|---|
| Top Head / Optics | Distribution, coverage, fixture appearance |
| Power / CCT | Output, electrical load, visual character |
| Driver / Voltage | Electrical compatibility and validation |
| Controls | Dimming and operating strategy |
| Housing / Finish | Landscape and architectural integration |
| Electrical Accessories | Protection or emergency requirements |

STARLAKE has 50+ engineers and 100+ technical patents supporting optical, electrical, thermal, structural, and manufacturability considerations during product development.
Optical, environmental, electrical, installation, and customization requirements should be defined early because changes can affect validation, certification, tooling, MOQ, lead time, and cost.
LED Bollard Light Manufacturing & Quality Control
Bollard manufacturing requires consistency across optical components, electrical assembly, enclosure construction, sealing, surface finish, and mounting components.
STARLAKE has 30+ QC professionals supporting manufacturing and quality control. Bulk orders undergo an 8-hour aging test before shipment, while new products undergo 30 days of continuous high-temperature testing during product validation.
These procedures support early-stage electrical, component, thermal, and assembly screening rather than serving as a direct simulation or guarantee of full service life.
Backed by approximately 280,000 sq.ft of production facilities and warehouse support in Ohio and California, STARLAKE supports commercial landscape projects, distribution programs, OEM/ODM production, and selected North American supply requirements.
What We Need for Your Bollard Lighting Project
A useful bollard recommendation begins with the path and required lighting result.
For project evaluation or quotation, provide:
Project or application type
Path or target-area dimensions
Path width and length
Proposed bollard positions
Existing or preferred spacing
Required illuminance or lighting criteria
Preferred top-head or optical style
Tensione di ingresso
Preferred CCT
Dimming or control requirements
Environmental conditions
Required certifications
Housing or finish requirements
Estimated quantity
For replacement projects, existing bollard dimensions, base conditions, electrical supply, and installation photographs are also useful.
Where available, provide a landscape plan, pathway layout, architectural drawing, photometric requirement, existing fixture specification, or installation photographs.
STARLAKE can then evaluate optical configuration, placement, spacing, output, CCT, controls, electrical requirements, and other project variables around the actual site.
Define the path, determine where the light needs to reach, and then select the optics and spacing around that requirement.
