LOCAL DELIVERY ADVANTAGE

Less Waiting. More Inventory. Better Project Support.

Local warehousing enables faster shipping, simplified logistics, and better inventory planning. From routine orders to time-sensitive commercial projects, STARLAKE provides dependable fulfillment that helps customers reduce downtime and meet project deadlines.

STARLAKE provides LED UFO high bay lights for warehouses, manufacturing facilities, workshops, distribution centers, gymnasiums, and other large indoor spaces with elevated mounting conditions.

Effective high-bay lighting depends on more than fixture wattage. Mounting height, working-plane requirements, beam distribution, fixture spacing, uniformity, operating schedules, and installation conditions all influence the appropriate configuration.

For lighting brands, distributors, contractors, importers, and project buyers, STARLAKE also provides OEM/ODM engineering, controlled manufacturing, quality assurance, and North American warehousing support.

How to Choose the Right LED UFO High Bay

A UFO high bay should not be selected by wattage alone. The real objective is to deliver the required illumination from an elevated mounting position to the floor, work surface, aisle, or other target plane.

A practical selection chain is:

Application → Mounting Height → Working Plane → Target Illuminance → Output → Beam Distribution → Fixture Spacing → Uniformity → Controls → Final Configuration

Start by defining the facility and visual task. General warehousing, material handling, production, assembly, and other activities can require different lighting conditions.

Then consider mounting height, working-plane height, room dimensions, and target illuminance before selecting fixture output, beam distribution, and spacing.

For larger warehouses, factories, or performance-sensitive projects, final selection should be checked using fixture-specific photometric data and the actual facility layout rather than a fixed wattage-to-height rule.

Mounting Height, Beam Angle & Fixture Spacing

High-bay lighting is fundamentally a light-delivery problem.

LEDs are compact, directional light sources. In a large space, secondary optics must redistribute their concentrated output into a pattern appropriate for the target area. High luminous flux alone therefore does not guarantee effective illumination or uniform coverage.

For UFO high bays, the main variables are closely connected:

Mounting Height → Beam Distribution → Coverage Area → Fixture Spacing → Working-Plane Illuminance → Uniformity

A narrower distribution generally concentrates more intensity over a smaller area, while a wider distribution spreads available light across a broader zone. Neither is automatically better.

STARLAKE’s current UFO high bay range includes configurations such as 90° and 110° distributions, allowing the optical approach to be matched to different layouts and mounting conditions.

Fixture spacing is equally important. If luminaires are spaced too far apart for their output and distribution, bright areas beneath individual fixtures can coexist with weaker zones between them. Excessive overlap, meanwhile, can increase local brightness without necessarily improving the overall lighting result.

This creates an important distinction:

Peak Illuminance ≠ Useful Uniform Illumination

Glare should also be considered where high-output fixtures remain within normal viewing directions. Mounting height, fixture output, optics, and viewing position should be evaluated together rather than treating glare as an isolated specification.

More lumens do not automatically mean better high-bay lighting. What matters is how those lumens reach the working plane.

Thermal Management for High-Output UFO High Bays

UFO high bays combine substantial LED output with a compact fixture form, making heat dissipation an important part of luminaire engineering.

Heat generated at the LED junction must move through the fixture’s thermal path toward the surrounding environment. Inadequate heat transfer can increase junction temperature and affect light output and long-term LED performance.

Selected STARLAKE UFO high bay designs use aluminum construction and passive heat-dissipation structures to support this thermal path without relying on active cooling fans.

The relationship is straightforward:

LED Power → Heat Generation → Thermal Path → Junction Temperature → Long-Term Performance

The heat-dissipation structure is therefore functional rather than merely aesthetic.

Thermal management is part of lumen maintenance—not simply fixture construction.

Match Lighting Controls to Facility Operation

Industrial spaces do not necessarily require full light output in every area throughout every operating hour.

STARLAKE’s current UFO high bay range includes 0–10V dimming capability, while selected configurations can accommodate compatible sensor options such as PIR or microwave sensing.

A practical control strategy considers:

Occupancy Pattern → Sensor / Control Strategy → Light Output → Operating Hours → Energy Use

A continuously occupied production area may operate differently from an intermittently accessed warehouse aisle or storage zone. Compatible controls can help reduce unnecessary full-output operation while maintaining the required lighting when the area is in use.

Control availability and compatibility should always be confirmed for the specific fixture configuration.

Selectable Power & CCT for Greater Project Flexibility

Different areas within the same industrial project may require different output or color-temperature configurations.

Selected STARLAKE UFO high bay models provide field-selectable power and CCT options, allowing one fixture platform to support multiple project conditions. UFO12, for example, is available with tunable power configurations and selectable CCT options.

For contractors, distributors, and stocking programs, this can create a practical supply-chain advantage:

Fewer Fixed Configurations → Greater Field Flexibility → Simplified Inventory → Easier Project Adjustment

Selectability does not remove the need for lighting design. Changing the power setting changes fixture output, so the final configuration should still be matched to mounting height, spacing, target illuminance, and the overall lighting layout.

Mounting Options for Different High-Bay Installations

STARLAKE UFO high bays support multiple mounting configurations depending on the model, including hook, ring/loop, and yoke mounting.

Hook or ring mounting provides a practical suspended arrangement for many conventional high-bay installations. Yoke mounting can be considered where a more rigid mounting arrangement or fixture positioning is required.

Final mounting selection should account for building structure, installation height, electrical routing, maintenance access, and project-specific safety requirements.

Replacing Metal Halide & Legacy High Bays With LED

Warehouses and industrial facilities may still use metal halide, high-pressure sodium, fluorescent high bays, or other legacy lighting systems.

UFO LED high bays can be considered for these retrofit projects, but replacement should not be based on a universal formula such as:

400W Metal Halide = X-Watt LED

Legacy and LED luminaires can differ substantially in optical efficiency and light distribution. Similar nominal lumen values therefore do not necessarily produce the same working-plane illuminance or uniformity.

A more reliable retrofit process is:

Existing System → Existing Layout → Mounting Height → Current Lighting Performance → Required Lighting Performance → LED Photometry → New Configuration

Before selecting a replacement, evaluate:

  • Existing fixture and lamp type
  • Fixture quantity and spacing
  • Mounting height
  • Existing and required illuminance
  • Electrical conditions
  • Existing mounting method
  • Operating hours
  • Control requirements

For larger retrofit projects, photometric evaluation or a representative installation mock-up can help verify the proposed configuration before full deployment.

Replace the required lighting performance—not simply the old wattage.

Where Are UFO High Bay Lights Used?

UFO high bays are suited to spaces where substantial illumination must be delivered from elevated mounting positions. The application name alone, however, should not determine fixture wattage or configuration.

ApplicationMain Lighting Considerations
Warehouses & Distribution CentersMounting height, fixture spacing, storage layout, uniformity, controls
Manufacturing FacilitiesWorking-plane illuminance, task visibility, equipment layout, operating hours
WorkshopsMounting height, work-area coverage, visual tasks, fixture positioning
Gymnasiums & Large Indoor SpacesCeiling height, coverage, uniformity, glare
Garages & Industrial FacilitiesLayout, mounting conditions, operating hours, environmental exposure

Two facilities with similar floor areas can require different UFO high bay configurations because their ceiling heights, layouts, working planes, and visual tasks differ.

UFO High Bay Manufacturing & Quality Control

As an LED UFO high bay manufacturer, STARLAKE combines in-house engineering with controlled manufacturing for project orders and long-term OEM/ODM supply programs.

High-output LED luminaires integrate several systems that must operate together, including LED modules, drivers, optics, thermal interfaces, housings, and electrical connections. Manufacturing consistency and quality control therefore affect more than final appearance.

STARLAKE has 30+ QC professionals supporting its manufacturing operations. Bulk orders undergo an 8-hour aging test before shipment, while new products undergo 30 days of continuous high-temperature testing as part of product validation.

These processes help identify potential electrical, component, thermal, or assembly issues under controlled conditions. Aging and high-temperature testing support quality screening and product validation; they should not be interpreted as direct simulations or guarantees of complete service life.

STARLAKE also operates approximately 280,000 sq.ft of production facilities with 400+ employees and maintains an Ohio/California warehouse to support North American customers with local inventory and supply-chain flexibility.

What We Need to Recommend the Right UFO High Bay

A useful recommendation starts with the facility—not simply a requested wattage.

For project evaluation or quotation, provide as much of the following information as possible:

  • Facility type and dimensions
  • Ceiling and mounting height
  • Working-plane height
  • Existing fixture quantity and spacing
  • Existing lamp or fixture type for retrofit projects
  • Required illuminance or foot-candle target
  • Input voltage
  • Preferred CCT
  • Environmental conditions
  • Mounting requirements
  • Dimming or sensor requirements
  • Required certifications
  • Estimated quantity

If available, send a lighting layout, ceiling plan, facility drawing, existing fixture specification, or installation photographs.

STARLAKE can then evaluate the appropriate output, beam distribution, mounting, electrical configuration, and controls around the actual project rather than recommending a UFO high bay from wattage alone.
