Send us your ceiling type, fixture quantity, voltage, controls and target application. We can help review the appropriate configuration for your project.
Uniform Commercial Lighting Starts With Light Distribution
The advantage of an LED panel is not simply its slim appearance. Its broad luminous surface helps transform the concentrated output of individual LEDs into more evenly distributed ambient illumination.
This matters because total lumens alone do not determine lighting quality. A fixture can produce sufficient lumens but still create poor task-plane results if its distribution and spacing do not match the room.
For offices, classrooms and other spaces occupied for long periods, specification should consider:
Target illuminance
Fixture lumen output
Mounting height
Fixture spacing
Light distribution and uniformity
Direct-view brightness and glare
Ceiling geometry and reflectance
STARLAKE’s current panel platform uses a 120° lighting angle for broad general illumination.
The basic design relationship is:
Distribution → Mounting Height → Spacing → Illuminance → Uniformity
Increasing spacing may reduce fixture quantity, but excessive spacing can create lower-illuminance areas between luminaires. Adding more output does not necessarily correct a poor layout.
For larger projects, final spacing and fixture quantity should be verified using fixture-specific photometric data or an IES-based lighting layout.
Selectable Wattage for Different Project Requirements
Commercial projects rarely require the same output in every room.
STARLAKE’s current slim panel platform provides selectable wattage, allowing one fixture family to cover several output requirements.
| Fixture Format | Selectable Wattage | Lumen Output |
|---|---|---|
| 2FT | 10W / 15W / 20W | 1,000 / 1,500 / 2,000 lm |
| 4FT | 25W / 30W / 40W | 2,500 / 3,000 / 4,000 lm |
Rated efficacy is 100 lm/W.
For contractors, selectable wattage provides flexibility when room sizes and target light levels vary within the same project. For distributors, it can reduce the number of fixed-output SKUs required to cover common commercial applications.
Higher wattage should not automatically be treated as better.
A more reliable selection sequence is:
Application → Target Illuminance → Mounting Height → Spacing → Required Lumens → Wattage Setting
If the lower setting already delivers the required maintained light level, additional wattage may increase connected load and ceiling brightness without improving the project result.
Choose 3500K, 4000K or 5000K
STARLAKE’s selectable-CCT platform allows the same fixture to be configured at 3500K, 4000K or 5000K.
| CCT | Visual Character | Typical Commercial Direction |
|---|---|---|
| 3500K | Softer neutral white | Offices and comfort-oriented interiors |
| 4000K | Balanced neutral white | Offices, schools and general commercial spaces |
| 5000K | Cooler white | Projects preferring a daylight-like appearance |
The correct CCT depends on the intended atmosphere, visual task, interior finishes and project specification.
Selectable CCT also has an inventory advantage. Distributors can cover several common color-temperature requirements without stocking a dedicated fixture for every combination.
Within the same continuous visual zone, keep the selected CCT consistent. Mixing settings across an open office or corridor can create an obviously inconsistent ceiling.
Slim Recessed and Flush-Mount Installation
LED panel lights integrate particularly well with commercial ceiling lighting because their slim construction minimizes the visual and physical bulk associated with traditional recessed fixtures.
STARLAKE’s current platform supports recessed installation and compatible flush-mount configurations using the appropriate mounting accessories.
| Format | Approximate Fixture Dimensions |
|---|---|
| 2FT | 23.7 × 5.75 in. |
| 4FT | 47.72 × 5.75 in. |
The low-profile design can be useful where the ceiling cavity must also accommodate HVAC ducts, wiring, fire-protection systems and other building services.
Contractors should still verify:
Ceiling construction
Opening dimensions
Available plenum space
Mounting accessories
Driver location
Wiring access
Service access
For retrofit work, do not assume fixtures with similar nominal dimensions are mechanically interchangeable.
0-10V Dimming and Occupancy Controls
Commercial lighting increasingly operates according to occupancy and actual lighting demand rather than remaining at full output throughout operating hours.
STARLAKE’s current panel platform supports 0-10V dimming and sensor configurations including PIR and microwave occupancy sensing. Selected configurations also provide Bluetooth-related control functions.
These controls can support different operating strategies:
Dimming in offices and meeting rooms
Occupancy-based switching in intermittently used rooms
Different control strategies across a multi-room project
Reduced unnecessary lighting runtime
Controls should be specified before ordering.
The driver → sensor → control architecture → project wiring must be compatible. Providing the control requirement during quotation allows the electrical configuration to be reviewed before production.
Commercial Electrical Configurations
Current STARLAKE panel configurations are available for AC120-277V and AC120-347V, depending on the selected model.
Power factor is specified above 0.9 and driver efficiency above 90%.
Voltage is especially important for projects involving multiple facilities or different regional electrical systems. A mechanically suitable fixture with an incorrect driver configuration can still create significant installation problems.
Before ordering, confirm:
Voltage → Wattage → CCT → Dimming → Sensor → Mounting
Commercial LED Panel Light Applications
Offices
LED panel lights work well as general ambient lighting in open offices, private offices, conference rooms and administrative spaces.
Broad distribution supports illumination across work areas, while selectable output and CCT allow the same fixture platform to adapt to different room requirements. 0-10V dimming can provide additional flexibility where operating light levels change.
Schools
Classrooms need useful illumination across desks, teaching areas and circulation zones rather than concentrated brightness directly beneath individual fixtures.
Fixture spacing should account for desk orientation, screens, whiteboards, daylight and room geometry. Occupancy sensing can also reduce unnecessary runtime in classrooms and support spaces with intermittent use.
Healthcare Facilities
Panel lights can provide general ambient lighting in appropriate administrative areas, offices, corridors and other compatible healthcare interiors.
The current STARLAKE BPL specification is IP20. Specialized clinical, wet, cleanroom or sanitation-sensitive spaces may require different ingress protection, construction or regulatory characteristics and should be evaluated separately.
Retail and General Commercial Interiors
Panel lights can provide the general ambient layer for retail floors, checkout areas, circulation spaces and back-of-house environments.
Where merchandise needs visual emphasis, combine general panel lighting with directional track or accent lighting rather than attempting to make one fixture perform both functions.
Replacing Fluorescent Commercial Ceiling Lighting
LED flat panel lights are commonly considered when older fluorescent ceiling systems reach the end of their practical service life.
However, a retrofit should not use:
Existing Fluorescent Wattage = Required LED Wattage
That shortcut ignores ballast consumption, lamp depreciation, reflector condition, optical distribution and the actual maintained illuminance of the existing system.
Use this sequence instead:
Existing Fixture → Existing Layout → Current Light Level → Required Light Level → LED Distribution → Required Output → Controls → Installation Compatibility
Before selecting replacements, document the existing fixture quantity, ceiling layout, mounting dimensions, voltage, controls and required task-plane light level.
The objective is not simply to install fewer watts. It is to maintain or improve the required lighting result while reducing connected load and future maintenance exposure.
Commercial Panel Light Selection Guide
A structured specification process reduces both lighting-performance and purchasing risk.
| Selection Input | What to Confirm | Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
| Application | Office, school, healthcare, retail | Establishes lighting priorities |
| Light Level | Target lux or foot-candles | Determines required output |
| Ceiling | Height, type and geometry | Affects mounting and spacing |
| Output | Required lumens | Prevents over- or underlighting |
| Distribution | Fixture photometrics | Affects coverage and uniformity |
| CCT / CRI | Project specification | Determines visual appearance and color rendering |
| Voltage | 120-277V or 120-347V as applicable | Determines driver configuration |
| Controls | 0-10V, sensor requirements | Determines wiring and operation |
| Mounting | Recessed or flush mount | Determines installation hardware |
| Certification | Project-specific requirements | Reduces compliance risk |
| Photometrics | IES file and layout | Verifies final lighting performance |
For larger projects, the last step matters. A lumen calculation can provide a preliminary estimate, but fixture-specific photometric simulation provides a much better basis for final layout decisions.
Fewer Configurations Can Mean Simpler Distributor Inventory
Project buyers and lighting distributors solve different problems.
A project buyer needs the correct configuration for one building. A distributor must stock enough configurations to serve many contractors without creating excessive inventory complexity.
Selectable wattage and CCT can help reduce that complexity.
Selectable Platform → Fewer Fixed SKUs → More Flexible Inventory → Easier Project Matching
A single configurable fixture family can cover several common combinations of output and color temperature that would otherwise require separate SKUs.
This can support:
SKU rationalization
Flexible local inventory
Easier contractor selection
Fewer specification substitutions
Better response to mixed project requirements
STARLAKE also maintains an Ohio/California warehouse to support North American customers requiring local inventory and more flexible replenishment.
OEM and ODM LED Panel Light Programs
Lighting brands, importers and regional distributors may require configurations beyond a standard catalog fixture.
STARLAKE supports OEM and ODM programs covering:
Wattage and lumen configuration
CCT configuration
Driver selection
Control integration
Optical development
Mechanical customization
Housing and appearance adjustments
Private labeling
Packaging customization
Certification support
Sample development
Production and quality control
Not every customization has the same engineering impact.
Label or Packaging Change → Limited Engineering Impact
Driver or Control Change → Electrical Review
Optical or Structural Change → Engineering Validation
Major Product Redesign → Potential Tooling and Certification Impact
Changes to the electrical, optical or mechanical system can affect testing, certification, MOQ and lead time. These implications should be reviewed before samples or mass production rather than discovered after the product has entered the approval process.
Why Commercial Buyers Work With STARLAKE
Selecting a commercial lighting manufacturer involves more than comparing fixture prices.
The supplier must be able to maintain electrical, optical and mechanical consistency across production while supporting engineering changes, certification requirements and long-term supply.
Engineering Support Reduces Specification Risk
STARLAKE has 50+ engineers covering areas including power supplies, thermal management, optics, mechanical design, digital controls and LED integration.
This allows electrical, optical and mechanical requirements to be reviewed as part of the same product-development process.
Manufacturing Capacity Supports Long-Term Programs
Founded in 2010, STARLAKE operates approximately 280,000 sq.ft of production space, employs more than 400 people and maintains manufacturing facilities in Shenzhen and Cambodia.
This infrastructure supports regular commercial orders as well as longer-term distributor and private-label programs.
Quality Control Helps Reduce Early Field Failures
STARLAKE has 30+ QC professionals.
Bulk production undergoes an 8-hour aging test before shipment to help identify early electrical or assembly failures. New products undergo a validation process that includes 30 days of continuous 24/7 high-temperature testing.
An aging test does not replace long-term lumen-maintenance, driver-life or thermal validation. It is one part of a broader reliability-control process.
50,000+ Hour Rating and 5-Year Limited Warranty
Current BPL configurations specify a service life of more than 50,000 hours and a 5-year limited warranty.
For distributors and lighting brands, service-life expectations and warranty coverage are important not only for end users but also for evaluating future replacement and warranty exposure.
North American Inventory Support
STARLAKE’s Ohio/California warehouse connects overseas manufacturing capacity with local North American inventory support.
For distributors and project buyers, this can improve replenishment flexibility and reduce dependence on international shipment cycles for every requirement.
